What is PlatePass?
PlatePass® is an electronic toll payment system that enables car renters to use high-speed electronic toll collection lanes to bypass backups at cash lanes. The PlatePass® service also means that rental car customers will avoid costly toll violation fines otherwise incurred if high speed toll lanes are used without special equipment or prior enrollment.

Toll charges accumulated during the rental period can be paid with the same credit card used to rent the vehicle. For those who did not use a credit card to pay for the rental agreement, an invoice will be mailed to the renter's address by ATS.

All rental car vehicles of companies that utilize PlatePass® are automatically enabled with this service, requiring no contracts or commitments by the car renters. The renter is only charged the amount of the tolls and daily PlatePass services if the electronic toll road is used during the rental period. PlatePass® fees are charged on a daily basis for each calendar day that the electronic system is used to pay tolls rather than paying cash.

PlatePass® Services are also available to toll road regions where traditional transponders are still required for cashless, electronic toll collection through a recently acquired patented product previously known as the EZ-Shield. The device, now called PlatePass® TagShield, is a small, windshield-mounted box that holds any standard electronic toll payment transponder (e.g. E-ZPass, SunPass, I-Pass, FasTrak, etc). The TagShield windshield box enables the driver to activate the in-car toll transponder at any time, by simply opening the activation drawer to expose the toll transponder. If a driver in a vehicle which is equipped with a TagShield device prefers to pay a toll with cash, the driver leaves the TagShield closed and can anonymously pay cash in designated toll lanes. This TagShield is immediately available to all PlatePass® subscribed (www.PlatePass.com) fleet owners and rental car companies.

After the rental car is returned, the customer's credit card is charged the accrued usage fees plus the actual amount of the tolls incurred during the rental period. Customers receive an itemized listing of all tolls and charges by mail. Customers may also visit www.PlatePass.com to view and download an itemized receipt.
